Shape: Tech, Academic, Social and Cultural Engagement

University English Language Centres of Australia (UECA) and Swinburne University of Technology English Language Centre (SUELC) present the UECA PD Fest, Melbourne, 2019.

This full day of professional development includes an opening keynote and a selection of 40-minute presentations and workshops. There will be a book exhibitor space, morning and afternoon refreshments, lunch, networking opportunities and an early evening social event.

The host institution is Swinburne University of Technology English Language Centre (SUELC), and the PD Fest will be held at their new purpose built Advanced Manufacturing and Design building located at the Hawthorn campus.

The theme for the UECA PD Fest, Saturday 26 October, 2019, is Shape. The PD Fest will focus on a broad range of strategies to promote and shape student engagement in the use of technology, their learning, their social interactions and their cultural expression. The day is aimed at providing professional development for teachers by teachers.

This PD event has FOUR main streams: Tech, Learning, Social and Cultural.

Tech

Practical classroom strategies, which use apps, websites, and technology, to meet modern student expectations and to shape meaningful learning experiences in and out of the classroom.

Learning

Shaping students into active learners, actively retaining, improving learning outcomes and taking responsibility for their learning with a focus on practical classroom strategies and activities.

Social

Activities and ideas to encourage students, shaping positive and meaningful interactions with other students and empowering them to communicate confidently and effectively with communities.

Cultural

Practical strategies and activities for classroom management to shape a culture of learning, personal responsibility and excellence within the challenges of mixed-level, monolingual, or diverse classes.

The best presenter, as voted by all participants, will receive up to $1000 towards costs of presenting their session at the next UECA PD Fest.
