Benchmarking 2020

Given the rapid shift to online ELICOS teaching delivery we have all experienced in 2020, UECA is offering, at no cost to participating Centres, the opportunity to participate in a short benchmarking exercise which will help members document the changes to their assessment practices. This undertaking will stimulate Centres to reflect on and document the impact of these assessment modifications as well as the governance processes they used to approve these changes. The benchmarking will also provide Centres with evidence towards meeting compliance obligations and showing that they remain quality pathway providers.

The focus of this year’s benchmarking will be Direct Entry ELICOS Programs’ Assessment Practices (pre, during and post COVID-19) in Phase 1, and then in Phase 2 Assessment Policies and Processes.

Pre-Workshop Activities

These three activities are to be completed online, prior to the Rater Training and Standardisation Workshop (see below).

You will be provided with:

  • CEFR introductory materials
  • Annotated and scored sample writing tasks (x2)
  • Sample writing tasks (x2) to be scored and annotated

You will be required to:

  • PWA1: Provide feedback on the CEFR introductory materials
  • PWA2: Provide feedback on the annotated and scored sample writing tasks
  • PWA3: Score and annotate 2 sample writing tasks

Please note, the submissions received from this pre-workshop activity may be used to facilitate discussion during the workshop. Any submissions used for this purpose will be de-identified and anonymised.

You will need to prepare 4 zipped files to upload. Please prepare these 4 zipped files before starting your Centre’s submission.

  1. Course outline documentation, including learning outcomes. Documents zipped and named ‘Course_Outline’.
  2. Mapping of Learning outcomes to assessment tasks. Documents zipped and named ‘Mapped_Outcomes’.
  3. Assessment Task sheets and accompanying marking rubrics. Documents zipped and named ‘Assessments_Rubrics’.
  4. Student work samples (scanned copies of student work). Documents zipped and named ‘Student_Samples’.
