Inspiring Engagement
of Learners & Teachers
PD Fest, Adelaide, 03 November 2018

University English Centres Australia (UECA) and The University of Adelaide English Language Centre present the UECA PD Fest Adelaide 2018.

This full day of professional development includes a selection of 40-minute presentations or workshops. There will be a book exhibitor space, morning and afternoon refreshments, lunch, networking opportunities and an afternoon social event.

The host institution is The University of Adelaide English Language Centre (ELC), in Adelaide.

The theme for the UECA PD Fest Saturday 3 November is “Inspiring Engagement of Learners & Teachers”. The day is aimed at providing professional development for teachers by teachers at UECA, NEAS and English Australia member institutions. We are looking for examples of best practice from teachers and administrative staff that others might take up and try in their own classrooms and centres to inspire and increase engagement.

This PD event will be divided into four streams: Student Engagement, Teacher Engagement, Community Engagement and Digital Engagement. Sessions might focus on the following:

Student Engagement
· Strategies for improving student engagement
· Fostering a positive learning environment through tasks and initiatives
  inside & outside the classroom
· Independent learning
· Assessment & Feedback
· The connection between student engagement, student learning and student wellbeing
· Intercultural Communication activities

Teacher Engagement
· Inspiring teachers to engage students
· Maximizing teacher engagement through a collaborative workplace
· Validation of practice
· Meaningful professional development
· Professional interaction/training/peer observation
· Teacher wellbeing

Community Engagement
· Extra curricula activities & clubs
· Student Services
· Social Clubs
· Interacting with community groups

Digital Engagement
· Educational technology
· Online Communities
· Meaningful use of digital tools in the classroom

The best presenter, as voted by all participants, will receive up to $1000 towards costs of presenting this session at the UECA PD Fest in Sydney in 2019.

UECA holds a number of PD Fests per year.
NEAS is proud to be the Principal Sponsor of these PD Fests.
