Focus Education: 2018 and beyond - Responding to a changing world of work

Abstract
The plenary session will discuss how universities are affected by significant disruption caused by technological innovation and rapidly changing skills and career requirements in the contemporary job market. The presentation will also reflect on Monash University’s Education Strategy and opportunities it foreshadows for learning in the 21st century.

Bio
Professor Zlatko Skrbiš is Senior Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic) at Monash University. His portfolio responsibilities include overseeing Monash’s course and curriculum content, education policy, learning and teaching quality, and student academic experience. He is also responsible for the university’s digital strategy and the Professions of the Future framework.

Professor Skrbiš holds undergraduate degrees in philosophy and sociology of culture from the University of Ljubljana and a PhD in sociology from Flinders University. His research spans the areas of migration studies, social theory and life-course studies. He is the author of numerous papers which have appeared in some of the key international journals. His books include Cosmopolitanism: Uses of the Idea (2013, with Woodward), The Sociology of Cosmopolitanism (2009, with Kendall and Woodward) and Constructing Singapore (2008, with Barr; Arabic translation in 2013). He is also an Honorary Professor at the University of Queensland and Warwick University.
